Kids Age 7-15

We use the Kids Can Sew & Fashion Design curriculum the #1 sewing program specially designed for teaching kids as young as 6 years old to sew. It has been used since 1983.  Thousands and thousands of kids have learned to sew with this easy to follow workbook and patterns.  The program workbook includes 7-9 months of projects and learning in each workbook level.

Students will learn to sew in a positive, encouraging environment where students progress at their own pace.  They will surprise themselves and you at how much creativity, individuality, and style will come out as they learn this wonderful life skill.

Students are responsible for purchasing fabric and thread for their sewing projects.  For 1st year students fabric for their 1st project is included in the registration fee.  One class session will be a trip to the fabric store.  You will receive advance notice as to when your student will need to purchase fabric for any additional projects.

Girls & Boys First Year

Students will learn how to follow sewing written terms & directions, use a paper pattern, cutting out fabric, make casings, hem, make a facing, pivot stitch, back-tack, make a slit, clip around curves, work from the fold line, measure from the straight of grain, use notches, pin, press, measure seam allowance, top stitch, use a tape measure, use a seam gauge and other equipments, chalk talk, determine pattern size, thread elastic, use a sewing machine and how to construct and complete a wearable garment.

 Second Year

Make slits, use bias tape, inset a sleeve, use knit fabric, make a drawstring waist casing, make a button hole, double top-stitch, baste stitch, make ribbing, ruffles, gather, stretch stitch, hand sew.

 Third Year

Inserting a zipper, attach a waistband, use interfacing, hem the circular method, make button holes, add lining, top stitch, make straps, set in sleeves, sew on buttons, sew on hooks & eyes, ribbing, making pleats, and add bias tape. Student will also learn to use several pattern pieces per project; a pre-requisite into commercial patterns.

• Classes are 1 hr weekly OR 2 hrs bi-weekly 
• Sewing machines and tools are provided
• Four students per class
• Class tuition $55 per month (sibling discount available)
• Registration fee $50 per school year
