When I was a little girl I would make clothes for my dolls by using scraps of fabric given to me by my mom, a wonderful seamstress in her own right. I would sit on her sewing room floor, when she was sewing, and whatever she was making, I would try to make for my doll. She would often stay up late at night making me an outfit as a special surprise. I remember waking up in the morning to a new outfit in my closet, and all the excitement and love I felt. I remember making my first jacket in sixth grade. When I showed it to my mom she said, “Why are your sleeves so short. They shouldn’t be at your elbow.” Who knew at the time that this would become one of the hottest fashions today—the three quarter length sleeve. My jacket sleeves looked just as good then as today’s sleeves. I can’t forget the look of surprise and excitement on her face when she realized that all that time spent on the floor and asking a million questions, I had actually been paying attention and had learn to sew. It’s hard to believe that I began sewing over 29 years ago. Professionally, I’ve created various looks for proms, weddings, special occasions and drill teams that were looking for something unique for over the last 15 years.
Over the years, I’ve enjoyed sewing both personally and professionally. I’ve most enjoyed sewing for my daughters Ashley and Taliah. Sewing for them reminds me of my childhood and the closeness that my mom and I shared as I was growing up. So it should come as no surprise to family and friends how the name AshTal Fashions Sewing Studio was born. It was created with the special love between a mother and her daughters—and a mother and her mom!!
Now, I would like to help you and your child experience the joy and excitement of sewing and fashion design! Sewing is a skill that will follow you throughout your lifetime.
